About Us

The current club was set up by Total Hockey in 2013, shortly after the London Olympic Games, under the direction of England Hockey. Our focus is very much on the development of juniors, and being an inclusive club we welcome young people of all ages and abilities. Since its revival in 2013 the club has thrived and provides a much-needed service in West London. In 2016, some 128 years after our auspicious predecessors, an Ealing Ladies Hockey team was formed and started to compete in a League Competition. We look forward to bringing the fantastic game of hockey to the next generation of young players and to serving our community for many years to come.

Our founders, Total Hockey, were an Official Coaching Agency of England Hockey and provided coaches for a number of schools and clubs including Ealing, Richmond and Greenwich. Total Hockey donated Ealing HC to the members under the HMRC CASC status providing a light touch charitable status. They remain connected to the success of Ealing Hockey and were awarded The Club’s inaugural Vice Presidents.

Ealing Hockey is fortunate to list 3 Level 1, 7 Level 2 and 2 Level 3 England Hockey Qualified Coaches.

Some Ealing coaches were part of TotalHockey, formerly an Official Coaching Agency of England Hockey.

Since 2021 Ealing Hockey, under the direction of Dain Lewis, remodeled its coaching to enable the most focused to excel further. The Club introduced the use of video coaching for feedback and record matches as well as player development at its Talent Centre.

Dain, a former National Performace coach for England brings a wealth of knowledge from his years coaching for England Hockey and in the Netherlands.

Our Men's Head Coach is Anthony Jones, an EH Level 3 qualified coach and a former Welsh and Commonwealth International.

England Hockey's Talent Centres provide young players with high-quality coaching, access to better facilities, and opportunities to develop their skills in a structured environment. These centres also help identify and nurture potential future stars, promoting a clear pathway for progression in the sport.

We see an important role that we need to be part of and that is spotting potential and helping that flourish into talent.

At Ealing's Talent Centre (TC), we are committed to providing a comprehensive, high-performance environment that supports the holistic development of every young hockey player. Our TC is designed to help athletes reach their full potential, focusing on the game's technical, tactical, physical, and mental aspects. Below expands on what we offer:

1. High-Quality Coaching

Elite Coaching Staff: Players can access experienced, England and FIH-accredited coaches dedicated to nurturing and developing talent. Our coaching staff provides individualised feedback and guidance, helping players refine their skills to the highest standards.

Personal Development Plans (PDPs): Every player receives a tailored development plan, outlining goals and performance indicators. These plans are regularly reviewed and adjusted to ensure continuous improvement.

2. Access to Top-Level Facilities

• We are fortunate to benefit from a strong and long-standing relationship with St. Benedict’s School and St. Augustine Priory School. We now have Ada Lovelace providing its indoor facilities.
• Sports Science and Medical Support: Athletes receive support from sports scientists and medical professionals, including physiotherapists and strength and conditioning experts, to ensure peak physical fitness and injury prevention.

3. Holistic Player Development

• Tactical and Technical Skills Training: We focus on improving both individual skills and team play, with emphasis on advanced tactical awareness and game intelligence. Sessions include video analysis and match reviews to enhance strategic understanding.
• Physical Conditioning: Players undergo regular fitness assessments, with specialised strength and conditioning programs to develop the physical resilience required for elite competition.
• Mental Toughness and Resilience: Mental skills coaching is integrated into our program to help players cope with the pressures of high-performance sports. This includes techniques for focus, confidence, and stress management.

4. Match Experience and Competitive Opportunities

• Regular Competitive Matches: Players are exposed to high-level competition, with regular match opportunities against other talent centres and elite teams. This provides invaluable experience in handling game pressure and performing at top levels.
• Pathway to Playing at the Highest Levels: Ealing's TC serves as a key stepping stone in England Hockey’s talent pathway, connecting players to talent academies, regional and national team selections and future international representation.

5. Education and Life Skills

• Education on Nutrition and Recovery: Players receive guidance on maintaining optimal nutrition and hydration levels, along with strategies for effective recovery and injury prevention.
• Balancing Academics and Sport: We work closely with players to help them balance their academic commitments with the demands of elite sports. Support is provided to ensure players can excel both on and off the field.
• Life Skills Development: Workshops and seminars are offered on key life skills, including time management, communication, and leadership, to prepare players for life as elite athletes and beyond.

6. Parental and Support Network Engagement

• Regular Communication with Parents: We engage with parents and guardians throughout the process, providing them with regular updates on their child’s progress and involving them in key aspects of their development.
• Supportive Environment: The TC fosters a positive and supportive environment where athletes can thrive both individually and as part of a team, encouraging personal growth and resilience.

Comprehensive Safeguarding Policies: We are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all young athletes. All staff and volunteers undergo regular safeguarding training, and our environment is structured to always ensure the safety and well-being of all players.

Clear Pathways for Progression: As part of the England Hockey Player Pathway, Ealing's TC offers a clear route for young athletes aspiring to play at higher levels, including national squads and professional leagues. Regular assessments and feedback ensure that players are on the right track to achieve their long-term goals.

West London Hockey Charitable Foundation was founded by Jeff Moores and Datinder Lotay, We wanted to share our passion with others. With Ealing HC the journey started with a small group of schools, and we wish to grow this and build a thriving community of athletes, coaches, and teachers.

Giving State Primary School pupils the chance to discover the joy of a fast dynamic team sport they can enjoy for life. One that they can play, regardless of size, gender, or strength – and play across all ethnicities and demographics. WLHCF ensures little outlay for equipment (and at the outset, we can even provide basic equipment, e.g. sticks, balls, etc).

A life of exercise, fun and friendships. 

Ealing Flyerz is a fun and inclusive pan-disability hockey session for individuals aged 8 to 15 years and 15 years and older. It is an initiative supported by the Ealing Hockey Club and Ada Lovelace School for individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, and have other disabilities (SEND). Equipment will be provided.
