Some long awaited sunshine greeted the Ealing GU14 Goshawks team for their semi final Plate match against Cheam last Sunday. The evenly matched teams battled hard, with several shots by forwards Sienna, Cleo and Jess just wide of the goal, ending the first half 0-0. In the second half the Ealing girls showed great determination, with Ona scoring a goal from a short corner in 46th minute. The Ealing lead was short lived however, with Cheam coming back strongly to equalise a few minutes later. The defense was put under pressure in the last minutes of the game, with Evie, Edie, Caitlin and Verena defending 3 short corners in a row, to hold onto the draw. After brief instruction from coach Gary on how to take penalties, five brave girls stepped forward for the team. Goalkeeper Mia was up first and brilliantly blocked 4 of the 5 Cheam penalties. Jess, Cleo, Stella, Nalini and Lexi made the most of their shots with Ealing winning 2-1 on penalties, securing their place in the final!
