Wow, what a game. There was shoot-out disappointment in the end, but only after the Buzzards had run the opposition ragged in the second half, cancelling out a first half goal to level the tie 1-1 after 60 minutes.

This Tier 2 first round cup game started evenly enough, but Spencer broke the deadlock with a wonder goal after 18 minutes with what I believe is called a “Tomahawk”. Ealing’s defence held firm thereafter: Sienna, Amelie, Edie and Ariyana demonstrating control and determination throughout. Daya would not be beaten again.

Ealing equalized almost immediately after the restart, Elena controlling brilliantly in the circle before passing for Amelia to score into the corner. Chances followed for both sides, but as Ealing’s midfield of Maria, Claudia, Jess, Lexi and Cleo started to dominate, Ealing were in the ascendancy and playing some wonderful hockey. Elena smashed one against the upright, Laurella ran brilliantly, and a goal was controversially disallowed, but 1-1 it finished.

This was by far the best Buzzards performance of the season, and we look forward to the next league match with renewed confidence.
